I was faced with a difficult decision: do I apply to shoot the Kerrang tour with Sum 41 or do I apply to shoot one of my favorite bands Tonight Alive again at Manchester Ritz? Obviously I ended up choosing the second based on this post but it wasn’t an easy choice!

Tonight Alive were just about to drop their brand new album which If I’m quite honest, underwhelmed me a bit. I love this band and their music is full of energy which comes over great in their live shows. But the new album ‘Limitless’ just seems too reserved and flat.

Luckily for me in the first 3 songs which I shot, only one of them was a new one which didn’t provide many opportunities for great photos. The other two were filled with the energy of the band I know and love.

Now I’m not the shortest photographer around but I struggle from time to time with tall stages. So it didn’t help that the band brought some pretty tall risers with them! So a lot of the shots I got were from beneath them, as I call them the dreaded ‘up nose’ shots.

It was the most difficult show I’ve shot this year so far, but I got a handful of shots which were good enough for the review for Soundcheck-Live. I was just a little gutted not to get an odd shot or two strong enough for my portfolio.

But if every show was easy, it would get boring right?
