I missed out on shooting The 1975 in both Doncaster and Sheffield on their last tour, so with four Manchester home town shows at the Apollo lined up for the band, I had to shoot one of them! Luckily for me it was the very first night of the four. I had checked out the set list and seen the first song was drowned with pink lighting, so the second with the city skyline background and clear lighting was going to be the time to get the killer shots.
It was the first time I’ve shot the Apollo and I loved it, although the stage is so deep so I had to fully zoom in on my 24-70mm to get the shots I wanted, the stage was short and the pit wasn’t too busy so I had no problem working my way around it. But being so deep I was able to get some cool wide shots which normally I’d struggle with.
The show was great and their new music sounded fantastic live. The only down side to the night was when I got home I found a wristband with ‘THE 1975’ written on it in the bottom of my envelope, alongside a note which said “please join us for a drink after the show”. Yeh… I was pretty gutted!
